How do I reduce the running costs of my electric hot water cylinder?

If your water cylinder has a timer or clock, check that it is set correctly. This ensures that if you are on an Economy tariff then your water is heated by cheaper, off-peak energy.

Do not programme your water cylinder to be on all the time. There is a false assumption that this minimises energy use by avoiding having to warm up, however it’s actually the opposite and maximises heat-loss from the cylinder.

Check to see what the water temperature is set to, as reducing this will allow for savings to be made.
