Air is drawn into the product via vents at the back and sides, which is then pushed by the fan into a chamber below the bricks before being pushed upwards through the core. If the core is hot, the air mixing flap (which is controlled via a bi-metal strip) will be open, allowing some air to bypass the core and enter the outlet.
The slots in the bricks allow the air to travel through the core absorbing heat as it goes through.
As the air leaves the core, if the air flap is open, it will mix with cooler air to give a regulated outlet temperature. When the core is cooler the air flap will be closed so that the air leaving the product is as warm as it can be.
The heater is sensing the room temperature and will switch the fan and off in order to regulate the release of heat to maintain the required room temperature.
